Last call: Two 2026 wooden surfboard workshop slots remaining

Five days. A pile of wood. Working with your hands, building, shaping, sanding and at the end of it a surfboard that you made yourself. If you’re wanting to make something remarkable in 2026, this is an official heads up that there are only two remaining wooden surfboard workshop spots left for the year. There is one place available for the dates 9-13 November, 2026, and one place available for the dates 7-11 December, 2026.

Over five days, you’ll work from the first pieces of wood through to the finished surfboard, building, shaping, sanding and finishing it with your own hands. No previous woodworking or shaping experience is needed, and workshops are limited to two people at a time to guarantee the best possible outcome.

A wooden surfboard you make yourself is different from any other kind of surf craft. You get to immerse yourself in the process of making, slowing down and working with your hands to make something of lasting beauty. We work through the different stages of building a hollow wooden surfboard. You’ll learn how all the pieces fit together, work with the wood, build up the structure and gradually start to see the shape of the surfboard emerge. There’s plenty of hands-on work involved. The workshop isn’t a demonstration where you watch someone else make your board. Our programme empowers you to do every stage yourself, leaving you with a surfboard that you can genuinely claim to have made yourself.

There’s something incredible satisfying about working with wood. You can see the material changing as you work with it. The grain, the colour and small variations in the timber become part of the finished board, so although everyone follows the same process, no two surfboards are quite the same. Unlike something assembled on a production line, you’ll know exactly how your board came into being because you were there and put your own energy and surfing story into it.

The workshops take place near Cape Point, with the work spread over five days. It’s a chance to step away from screens and spend some proper time making something with your hands. Visit the workshops page of this website for more information. You can book online or by emailing Patrick on burnett.patrick@gmail.com.
